AboutRole: Game design and development

A third-person voxel survival and automation game where programming is part of the technology progression. Mine, craft, and explore, then connect machines, pipes, power, and signals with scripts written in a Python subset.

Programming as progression

Early machines run on their own. Later ones expose inputs, outputs and signals, and the in-game editor lets you write the logic that ties them together: quarries, pipe networks, signal nets and robot fleets. The interpreter is custom-built for the game, so scripts run safely inside the simulation and errors show up where you can see them.

What is built

The playable slice covers mining, crafting, exploration, the first tiers of machines, the script editor and robot fleets. Six enemy types, from cave crawlers to shellbacks, now roam the world. Co-op works over direct IP on a custom TCP protocol. Captures on this page are from the current build, October 28, 2026.
